Holidays
There are a lot of holidays in Great Britain and in Russia.
On the 25th (twenty-fifth) of December English people celebrate Christmas. People decorate a
Christmas tree. Santa Claus puts presents for children into their stockings.
Some English people celebrate New Year. They have a party. At 12 (twelve) o’clock they have a
toast to the New Year.
On the 14
th
(fourteenth) of February people celebrate St Valentine’s Day. They send Valentine cards
to somebody they love.
In March or April people in Great Britain celebrate Easter. Children get presents – chocolate Easter
eggs or rabbits.
On the 31
st
of October people in Great Britain celebrate Halloween. Children wear funny clothes,
say “trick or treat” and get sweets.
In Russia people celebrate New Year, Christmas, Easter, Victory Day, Mother’s day and other
holidays. My favourite holiday is my birthday because I get a lot of presents.
Hobbies
People have different hobbies: for example, they like collecting things, travelling or doing sports.
My hobbies are reading, drawing and sports.
I like reading very much. I read interesting books, usually about animals. My favourite writer is
____. She writes stories about ________.
I like to draw. I can draw people very well.
I swim in the swimming pool every week. I am a good swimmer.
I think my hobbies are exciting.
Travelling
Almost all people like travelling. It is very interesting to see new places, visit new countries.
People can travel by plane, by train, by ship, by car. Travelling by plane is the fastest, travelling
by train is the safest, travelling by ship is the most interesting, travelling by car is the most convenient.
I travel once (twice, three times) a year, in summer, when I have summer holidays.
I prefer travelling by car, because we can stop at any place we like and have fun. But when I go
to faraway places (to the seaside or to Moscow), I travel by plane.
I like travelling.

Snowy day
It snowed every year in Charlie's village.
The weather was worse this year. Charlie's school had to close and his parents couldn't go
shopping or go to work. It was too dangerous to drive their small car.
“I’d like to make some pancakes but we haven't got any milk or eggs!' Mum said on Monday morning.
“We need toothpaste, too,” Dad said.
“That's OK,” said Charlie, “We can get things like that on the Internet! I know a good website!”
“Why doesn't it stop snowing? said Mum that afternoon, “Oh, I'd like to be on holiday and see the
sun! And I wanted to go and get tickets for the circus today!"
“That's OK,” said Charlie. “I can show you pictures of sunny holiday places on the internet and a
website where you can buy circus tickets!”
So the family sat around the computer and bought the things they needed and looked at photos.
Then Charlie said, “Now I've got to do my homework. Can you help me, Dad? I've got to write
about the moon.”
“Sorry, Charlie,” Dad said. 'I can't help … but look! Here's a good website!”
